Mattresses are collected as 'Heavy Trash' once a month on your designated collection day. Items must be placed at the curb by 6 a.m. on the collection day. All items must be free of food and liquids. The City of Houston Solid Waste Management Department does not explicitly state a requirement for wrapping mattresses for curbside collection, but it is generally recommended to wrap mattresses in plastic for sanitary reasons and to prevent the spread of bed bugs.
